Considering Rottweiler breeding as a viable investment of your time and money? Well, before you jump right into it, there are a couple of things that you should consider.
The truth is, every year thousands of Rottweilers are abandoned, put down and abused by owners who once thought they had the potential to care for this breed of dog. While Rottweilers are definitely a great breed of dog to own, they do need that extra special touch which requires some experience with dogs.
So, keeping the above in mind, ask yourself why you would really like to get into Rottweiler breeding? Is it because of the money or do you have a genuine passion for the breed?
If it is because of the money, then you might end up spending more than you make. Rottweiler puppies are born to a maximum of eight in a litter and can sell for between $200 and $450. That is of course the plus side.
The other side of the story is the amount of money you would need to spend once they are born to be able to sell them to other people. Think about the OFA certification, the various shots each of the puppies have to get, x-rays, visits to the veterinarian and of course the amount of dog food needed before you get them sold. The amount of money you would need to spend will more likely end up being more than you make, which could turn out to be a bad idea in terms of finances.
But if you are considering Rottweiler breeding because of a strong passion for this breed, then you probably won’t mind spending the money necessary to ensure that your dogs get the best possible life.
It is of course important to keep in mind that Rottweiler abuse does exist to a very large degree in society. So, while putting some of your efforts into Rottweiler breeding, why not also take the time to educate others on the benefits, training and keeping of these lovely animals? It will not only make you feel better, but might also save a couple of lives.
