“Pitbull vs. Rottweiler” - chances are that you were looking for something regarding the power of these creatures, most probably when pitted against each other. But did you ever consider their benefits – what value both these breeds might have as pets? While both of these breeds are subject to myth and media controversy, both of them exhibit natural qualities which will make them excellent companions.
Before we compare these to animals to each other, there are a couple of facts that need to be set straight. First off you have probably heard that a Pitbull locks its jaws once it has latched on to a target. This is a myth, as it has been medically proven that these dogs have no mechanism capable of locking the jaws. In the same breath we’d like to clear the myth that Pitbulls and Rottweilers feel no pain – they do, as their nervous system are no different to that of any other dog breed.
That being said; take a look at the two dog breeds separately:
Pitbulls
Yes, they were originally bred for fighting but, just like any other animal, would choose not to if they had a voice. The truth is that a Pitbull is an intelligent and active dog, eager to please its human companion. In addition, Pitbulls are patient animals and can be left with children, which makes them a good family companion.
The bad press comes from those breeders who breed these dogs for fighting purposes, often resulting in the abuse of the dog and, as such, a violent temperament. Although the Pitbull may be aggressive toward other dogs, they are in no way naturally violent toward people and only crave love and loads of affection.
Rottweilers
Originally a working dog used to pull carts and to herd and guard cattle, the Rottweiler is a soft-hearted giant with a high intelligence and a love of being around people. These dogs are friendly by nature and are an excellent companion for the family and house due to their protective nature.
Similar to Pitbulls, Rottweilers can have a nasty temperament if they are not properly trained or socialised or if they are abused. Other than that, this big clown will appreciate mental exercises and lots of activity and love.

It is so nice to see a positive website in regards to Rotties and Pits. I own one of each…a girl Rottie and boy Pit, and they are WONDERFUL!!! I have two children who they absolutely adore. I have NEVER had an incident with either one acting vicious or violent. I whole heartedly believe that it is all in how you raise and love your animal. For instance, I have experienced an extremely vicious poodle, but no one is trying to ban them!!! Keep up the positive work and best regards from the proud momma of a Rottie and a Pit!
