Preparing your home for the arrival of your Rottweiler puppy will ensure not only your puppy’s safety but will also save your home from getting totally wrecked by your inquisitive little explorer.

As a rule, keep in mind that every room that your Rottweiler is likely to wander about in must be made puppy-friendly. If your pup has free reign of the entire house, then you have to make sure that the whole house is puppy-proofed.

To get a better idea of what needs to be done you need to get down to your pup’s level and get a better view of the surroundings from his perspective. Getting down on your fours and crawling around all accessible areas at ground level will give you a good idea of the potential hot-spots and problem areas.

So as to avoid running after your little tyke to make sure he stays out of trouble, here are 3 basic safety suggestions you need to keep in mind even before you bring your Rottweiler puppy home:

1- Little pups are big explorers; they can never resist the urge to climb staircases or poke their head over the balcony railings in an effort to see what’s on the other side. A baby gate or even some chicken wire or temporary plastic fencing could prevent your pup from going into these areas.

2- Chewing is a Rottweiler puppy’s all-time favorite hobby and he will happily tug and chew on anything that he can sink his teeth into. Unfortunately this could include all kinds of cables, cords and electric wires as well and your puppy could get an electric shock or he could get seriously hurt if he pulls over any heavy object. Keep all chewables and all wires not only out of reach but out of sight as well.

3- Make sure the floor is clear of small objects such as coins, blocks, buttons and other tiny thing-a-ma-jigs that could be potential choking hazards. Also keep all cleaners and chemicals that could be poisonous way out of reach.

Just taking care of three safety issues means you can read your book or finish your meal in peace without having to check on what little Rottie is up to.
