An ideal Rottweiler is a big and healthy dog which can keep up with just about any activity and still be ready for more fun with their owner.

If you are the Rottweiler’s owner, you want to make sure that you can keep your dog healthy for many, many years. In order to do that there are several factors to take into account, such as the dog’s activity level and its regular vet visits. But at the heart of a Rottweiler’s good health is its diet. Feed your dog right and it will keep them healthy and well for years to come.

A Rottweiler needs the right balance of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. If they don’t get the right balance of nutrients from their food, it could well be their first step toward various ailments.

It all starts when your Rott is still a little pup. In order to grow like he should, a Rottweiler needs to eat up to five times a day until he is at least one year old. Once they are full-grown adults, a Rottweiler will only need to be fed once or twice a day. In order for your dog to get the most out of their meals, make sure you maintain a routine, always feeding them at the same time each day.

As your puppy grows, make sure you transition from puppy food to adult food. Your Rottweiller puppy is ready for adult food when he is at about 90 percent of its full-grown adult weight. The changeover in diet should not be done overnight however. Change your Rottweiler’s diet overnight and his digestive system, which is not yet mature, will likely not be able to handle it. Take it slow and easy and keep a close eye on your Rottweiler during his period. Watch for any signs of discomfort. Once he makes the transition your worry-period is over; at least as far as diet is concerned.
