Rottweiler care is just as intricate as proper care for any other dog. Rottweilers require certain different types of food at various stages in their life; they need a couple of shots; they need discipline coupled with love and most of all they need a disease-free environment so that they can wander around doing whatever it is that takes their fancy (provided it is with your approval, of course). So what do you do? Where do you get the right information and who will help you care for your dog?

The advised route is of course to contact your local Rottweiler club, kennel or even veterinarian as they have been trained and also have experience in dealing with these kinds of questions.

However, before you go through all that trouble you may want to know a few basic guidelines that will help you have some foreknowledge and also help you with asking the right questions.

Feeding Your Rottweiler

It is important to remember that Rottweilers need to be fed not just the right amount of food but also the right type of food. Whereas underfeeding can result in malnutrition, constant overfeeding can make your Rottweiler fat and obese.

In addition to the amounts dogs are fed, you’ll also have to look at what they are allowed to be fed. Giving a dog the wrong kind of food at the wrong age can result in growth problems that could affect the density of its bones and result in a host of other health problems. Age-appropriate food is an important aspect of Rottweiler care.

Training Your Rottweiler

Training your Rottweiler is another important facet of Rottweiler care and this has to do with the Rottweiler nature. Rottweilers are loyal, intelligent and protective. These traits coupled with their genes, could make for lively dogs which, if not trained right, might show signs of aggression later on. It is therefore important to socialise your Rottweiler from an early age to help it get used to other people and animals. Obedience training is also a must, especially between 6 weeks and 6 months of age as this is the period where the infant Rottweiler learns fastest. Formal obedience training at any Rottweiler club or kennel is highly recommended especially if you do not have the time or the aptitude for it.

Last but not least, Rottweiler care entails loving your dog like a friend and showering him with the love and affection that he deserves.
